"Not Just Another Love Story" is not just another World of Warcraft movie! It does continue Tristan Pope's distinctive series of sly movies set in the massively multiplayer World of Warcraft. -- HEL

I think this is a great showcase of creativity and user ingenuity. Though a little crude at times in its display thus limiting the scope of the audience that will be swayed to view and appreciate the storyline. I like the concept though, and I think it is a creative approach to commenting on in game specifics like 1337 speak and it's use or non-use as the case may be. Great Job though!

I just watched this, and it was so fun! Good choice of music, and did Sey really do the Macarana? Oh well, just goes to show that some things never die!

I was most impressed by how so many people came together to make this possible. It was nice to see people cooperating to make something positive, silly sex scenes aside.

Subject: Had to watch it twice!
Very enjoyable; I had to watch it twice to be able to focus on the love story and everything else going on. My favorite scene was the dance club and I spotted a few dancers sporting some Michael Jackson moves.
I was impressed by the use of music; I had expected to see R rated material but since everyone was clothed (mostly) and the movements at times were ambiguous I relied on the music to clue me in to a "romantic" interlude.
A great watch and eye opening experience.

Subject: Funny and Charming, But Too Long
This video is a great example of the unknown elements players can add to any game, especially one in which player community has such a large role in the experience. It's doubtful Blizzard Entertainment expected their game would be used to create a video like this--but it was! The amount of work that must have gone into making this video, especially in terms of the cooperation that existed between countless individual players, is very impressive.
That said, the video was rather long and I felt myself losing interest at times. Even though some of the "shocking" scenes were rather humorous, they really seemed to extend past the point of amusement. I really think the entire video would be better if it was shortened up to maybe half of its current length.
It is fascinating to me that videos such as this are being made, as it shows just how much of themselves players put into the games they play. Instead of simply enjoying World of Warcraft as it was designed, this video proves that the barriers that exist between game worlds and the real world are not necessarily solid. Furthermore, the bleeding of cultures between the two worlds isn't always something bad, as media outlets that look to game violence as a scapegoat would so often like us to believe.
Overall, a really impressive effort in terms of the teamwork of the players, not to mention the manipulation of the game needed to pull the video's creation off. However, the video's pacing and length are somewhat of an inhibitor to its overall enjoyment. Still, as an example of the ways in which video games exist as more than simple playthings, the video is most certainly worth watching. And, should you have a bit of a "junior high" sense of humor like me, you'll enjoy some of the more inappropriate scenes!

This is the first machinama film I have ever seen, and I thought it was very creative and entertaining. It was a little skeezy, but I found the awkward sex scenes to be funny and tongue-in-cheek rather than offensive. Of course the entire thing was based in male fantasy, but what else would you expect? Technically, I can’t offer much criticism, seeing as I have nothing to compare it to. I can say that the creator’s engagement with WoW issues politics seemed genuine, and he made his statement clearly and in an engaging way. I think the title aptly represents the story. On one level, it was just another love story with plenty of convention. But the direct pop culture references (like the beach scene reminiscent of “10”) assured me that that was the point. The familiar romance plot devices contrast with the thoroughly modern medium and cultural context. This made the film anything but typical, and I really enjoyed it for that reason.

I have to say, the first thing to catch my attention was the old ogre model, which I'd never seen before. The sex scenes didn't offend me, and the music choice for the scene in the cathedral basement was funny, but I did feel they were too long - "Okay, we get it, they're having oral sex. No, really, I get it now." I felt like the pace dragged during those scenes, which made up quite a bit of the film. On the other hand, I loved the dance club. And the pali bubbling in bed made me laugh - they use protection! I have to say, the biggest laugh of the film was the outtake with the male lead dying in the dance club. The editing and effects were less impressive than in more recent machinima. But going by the credits and the outtakes, this was filmed on a live, PVP server, so I'm very impressed with the end result, even as I imagine heaps of dead guards just out of the shot for the wedding and dance club scenes.

Subject: It's clever....but...
This is clever - and it must have taken a lot of work getting the guild and everyone/everything else to work together, but I should not be thinking about that when I was watching it, and I was. I should have been so engaged that I did not think about the processes.
I was almost going to write that it is a bit tongue in cheek in parts with how the game is depicted, but... you would have to see the video to know that is not quite the right description to use.
I only gave two stars because the story was not engaging. It was too much about male fantasy to engage for me.
Watch it because it is clever, but that is it, and for me that is not quite enough.

This piece reminded me of the stop motion projects some students undertook in film school. This seemed however to be much more daunting a task, congrats! The plot was not easy to follow but I did understand everything at the end. The sound design was thoughtfully planned out. I believe the filmmaker had only those set pieces and props that were created in game to work with and couldnot just create exactly what was needed... allowing for an imaginative yet R rated short.

Subject: Very creative WOW based film making!
Subject: Very creative WOW based film making!
As a fan of WOW and a player since the very beginning a few years back, I enjoy watching movies made within this fantasy realm. I have seen quite a few movies which at times, take themselves a bit to serious and attempt to include so much information, that I believe they should of written a book, instead of filming a short film. This particular film, I found to be the perfect length and even though it has a few adult scenes (which I had no problem with), the story was intriguing and made me smile and laugh quite a few times. What more can you ask for in a short film? Also, the undertaking of filming must be given credit. The choosing of the correct music to correspond with the scenes, including gathering so many individuals to assist in the filming by providing background characters must of been very difficult (I am assuming they are fellow WOW guild members). Plus, I am not sure how this was filmed on a live, active server without other individuals running around and ruining a shot (maybe it was filmed at 4 a.m.? But I doubt it since hardcore WOW players never sleep I think). I offer my admiration and tip my hat to a job, very well done.

Subject: Interspecies love?

This is an epic love story! The film work was amazing (given the options). This includes the use of repeats, blurs, slow-motion and panning which were impeccable. Only sound effects could have added more to the perfectly matched soundtrack. The coordination of cast, especially throughout the dance club scene shows an eye for detail and a flair for tableau. Although simplistic and sexually themed, the plot works well for a short film. Some plot confusion stems from hypothetical questions such as why did they marry before they went dancing & romancing? And why was their honeymoon in a dungeon versus the bed that came later? Does the troll really have the stamina to handle two women? (a foundation of this could be created with a stunning victory or show of merit based on strength and skill). As for the happy couple, I would have like to have seen them taking on a mutual foe together, to accomplish something great, and create a more wholesome bond.

Can't beat (ha ha) the use of a video game AS ENABLED by the developers. Transitions were a little abrupt, but the soundtrack was well thought out and the messages at the end were appropriate. Well done.

this was pretty weird. I did enjoy the break dancing and how they set all of it up was pretty cool. However, the animated...pixels trying to have sex was funny all in itself i suggest you watch this at your own risk.
